MultiKai was started by Doug and Gayla Andrews in Whangarei, New Zealand in 1998. Patents for the Cookers were established in New Zealand and Australia and Trademarks in New Zealand, Australia and the USA.
Other companies have attempted to copy our designs but none have ever been able to get the same flavours produced from our cookers.
The original cooker was designed to allow you to produce a hangi as close as possible to a traditional Maori hangi without all the work that an actual hangi takes to put down. Steaming food is a healthy way of eating, something Maori realised years ago, it was not only how it was cooked but how it was prepared and laid out that gave the food its unique flavour and produced low fat healthy cooked meals. By steaming the food and allowing the fats to be released from the food to the bottom of the hangi pit was the secret to healthy cooking.
With the introduction of new technology over the years our product has made significant advancements and now we proudly sell our cookers as a 5 in 1 combination cooker.
